AMMAN-The Board of the Arab Knowledge and Management Society (AKMS) - a member of the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Foundation – decided to change the name of the Society to the Arab International Society for Management Technology (AISMT) so as to be more reflective and in line with the vision and mission of the Society, which is trying its best to keep up with all developments taking place in the technology and knowledge era we are living in.
During the extraordinary meeting headed by HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Chairman of the Board of Society and in the presence of its General Assembly members and Board members, the meeting discussed amendments to the Statutes of the Society; and some comments were made thereto. However, the Objectives of the Society were consequently amended in line with the new approach adopted in connection with the knowledge management which is primarily based on the use of information technology.
Accordingly, the Society shall play a leading role in the rehabilitation and strengthening of the level of professionalism of workers in the field of information and knowledge management technologies through the provision of specialized training courses in these areas, thus implementing the objectives of the Society which strives always to disseminate scientific knowledge in order to meet and support specialized social and economic development. Moreover, the Society also aims to unify, improve and disseminate international quality standards, in addition to quality standards pertaining to information technology through proper interventions.
The newly amended objectives of the Society also included the organization of Arab seminars and courses, and regional and international conferences as well in order to serve the working community and strengthen professional links with various information technology, management and business centers as well as documentation and information centers in the world. During the meeting, it was decided to hold the first specialized conference on knowledge management which is based on information technology under the umbrella of the Society.
The Society will forge ties of cooperation with various research, information technology and science centers, as well as with centers for knowledge management technologies and will conclude agreements and reach memoranda of understanding in various countries of the world and assimilate these skills, sciences and technologies and disseminate them in the Arab world.
Given the fact that HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh in his capacity as Chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization was elected for the joint chairmanship with the United Nations for the purpose of urbanization in partnership with the President of the United Nations Human Settlements Program /UN-Habitat – on behalf of the United Nations, this is actually the first real partnership between the United Nations and a company from the private-sector, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh has stressed the importance of the participation of the Society in the membership of this International Network (the Global Network for the Promotion of Digital Technology for sustainable urbanization), while underlining the need for the Society to be specialized in smart management, through the use of information and communication technology.
The Arab Management and Knowledge Society:
The Arab Management and Knowledge Society was founded on (29th August 1989) in Buffalo-New York in the United States of America, and it was registered officially in Amman on (10th July 1990) under the name of “the Arab Management Society", and the creation of the society came as a result of the conviction of senior management officials and businessmen in the Arab world of the importance of their roles and implications thereof in the service of business communities in their own countries.
